Bever BV

Durable or sustainably produced jackets

Bever BV asked Leiden University and Delft University of Technology how an outdoor textile retailer could improve its environmental performance. Specifically, they wanted to know what actions could be taken and which products would be better to sell: durable or sustainably produced ones. For five months, I in a group of five master's students in Industrial Ecology worked on answering these questions.

We compared the interventions made by Bever BV and Decathlon BV using the sustainable business model archetypes developed by Lüdeke-Freund et al. (2016). We found that Bever BV had implemented many interventions, while Decathlon had more potential for improvement.

For the second question, four jackets were compared using Life Cycle Assessment based on ISO 14040 standards. The functional unit and the results are presented in pictures on this page.

First question: Bever BV vs Decathlon

Second question: LCA results
